THOMASVILLE — The end of a crime spree that began months ago is the result of hard work by police and the community’s help, a Thomasville Police Department (TPD) official said.
Markevious Samuel, 17, was arrested at a local high school school game last week and charged with possession of a stolen firearm.
Since then, Samuel and a juvenile have been charged with three counts of entering auto, two counts of stolen firearm and 10 counts of criminal street gang involvement.
“We also have the evidence to tie them to entering autos throughout the city since the beginning of the year,” said Capt. Maurice Holmes, TPD Criminal Investigations Division commander.
The crimes include a number of burglaries at businesses and residences.
Juveniles charged in the burglaries are being held at the Loftiss Youth Detention Center. Samuel is in the Thomas County Jail. Bonds for gang-related charges are cash only, Holmes said.
Meanwhile, the northeast sector of the city was hit with a number of burglaries, including a burglary attempt in the 600 block of East Monroe Street.
Police went to a residence at 327 N. Spair St. looking for suspects.
“We were told by the homeowner nobody was inside the residence,” Holmes said.
Police obtained a search warrant and found suspects in the attic of the Spair house.
Holmes said Jamahni Williams jumped through an attic window — face first — in an escape attempt. Williams, Robert Burnham, and Jamia Miranda also were in the attic and taken into custody.
Police are looking for Mercedes Young, who will be charged with criminal trespass in the case.
