MOULTRIE, Ga. — A former Colquitt County school teacher received a 25-year sentence, 10 of which are to be served behind bars, after pleading guilty Wednesday to sexually assaulting a student.

Sebrun James Holton Jr. also pleaded guilty to three counts of child molestation, two counts of enticing a child for indecent purposes and criminal attempt to commit a felony.

Colquitt County Superior Court Judge Brian McDaniel also ordered Holton to pay a $2,000 fine, and two additional sentences of 25 years and four of 20 years are to be served concurrently.

The 25-year sentence on the sexual assault of a student includes 15 years of probation after completion of the 10 years in prison.

Holton, 27, was arrested in January after an investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The agency became involved after the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office was told of the activity after 15-year-old girl notified family members.

The girl was a former student of Holton’s at C.A. Gray Junior High School. The reported “sexual acts” involving the girl took place in October and December of 2017, according to the GBI.

Both incidents took place after school hours. Holton was involved with a school-related activity in 2017 with the former student and had supervisory authority over the victim at the time the incidents occurred, the GBI said.

Holton had been with the school system for about four years and taught ninth-grade literature and composition on the C.A. Gray campus.

He tendered his resignation with the system the week of his arrest.
