MOULTRIE, Ga. — Police did not find the shoplifting suspect they were after on Aug. 14, but a man found at the Edmondson Road residence did go to jail after struggling with officers.

Officers with the Moultrie-Colqauitt County Drug Enforcement Team went to 708 Edmondson Road at about 3:17 p.m. while assisting Moultrie police.

There they found Michael Duwayne Sutton and Shawn Ryder Womack, police said.

“We were assisting the Moultrie Police Department with attempting to identify a guy regarding a shoplifting from Wal-Mart,” said Sgt. Justin Lindsay of the DET.

Sutton originally gave officers a fake name, Lindsay said.

“After speaking with Michael Sutton he decided he would attempt to flee,” Lindsay said. “He ended up pushing two officers, myself and another one. An altercation ensued between officers and (Sutton).”

After officers subdued Sutton they found a small amount of suspected methamphetamine in one of his pockets.

There were no serious injuries suffered on either side, said Lindsay, who did have his knee checked at the hospital as a precaution.

Sutton, 42, 797 Smith Road, was charged with two felony counts of obstruction of an officer, possession of methamphetamine, giving false information or false name to a police officer and two counts probation violation.

Womack, 45, 420 Taylor Road, was charged with possession of marijuana.
