Ms. Senior Georgia visits Dalton again
DALTON, Ga. — The Senior Softball Players Association (SPA) was in Dalton recently for the Men’s 50-plus World Championships and the players were treated to a nice surprise when the Ms. Senior Georgia Pageant winner, Sandra Komiskey, showed up to root them on. Komiskey was visiting Dalton when she learned of the SPA tournament at Heritage Point Park. She decided to visit the tournament that day. “We were pleasantly surprised to see Ms. Komiskey,” said Amber Hefner, sales manager for the Dalton Convention & Visitors Bureau. “I think her presence at the ball field really surprised the players. It made them feel special she would spend part of her very busy day with them.” Komiskey is from Alpharetta and was selected as Ms. Senior Georgia Queen in August of 2017. Her reign as queen ended on Aug. 19 of this year, “Ms. Komiskey originally toured Dalton back in May of 2018,” said Dalton-Whitfield Senior Center Program Director Julie Dyer. “She fell in love with Dalton and felt so welcomed here by the residents that she decided to come back and stay a few more days.” While in town in May, Komiskey visited the Senior Center, the Emery Center and several other Dalton attractions. “I’ve traveled 11,000 miles throughout the entire state,” said Komiskey, ”and Dalton was my favorite town. Everyone was so friendly and kind, and when I left I felt like I was leaving family.”

Baldwin Players’ Tryouts for ‘Stop Thief’ on Aug. 27-28 at ABAC
TIFTON, Ga. — Auditions for the Baldwin Players’ fall production will be held Aug. 27-28 at 6:30 p.m. each night in Howard Auditorium at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Dr. Brian Ray, professor of English and theatre and the director of the Players, said roles are open for nine men and five women for the comedy, “Stop Thief.” “George P. Donaldson, who later became the ABAC president, directed the Baldwin Players in this play in 1933,” Ray said. “As a celebration of the 85-year heritage of the Baldwin Players and live theatre at ABAC, this play is being performed once again.” Ray said the play is a farce that centers on a family in the middle of preparing for the daughter’s wedding. In the frenzied story of activity, two crooks enter the house, causing much confusion and leading to mistaken identities and surprising revelations. Auditions are open to ABAC students, faculty, staff, and administrators as well as members of the community. No prior acting experience is required. “Stop Thief” will be performed in Howard Auditorium on Oct. 4-6. Interested persons can contact Ray for more information at 229-391-4969.
