MOULTRIE, Ga. — The Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Authority will start a new program on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at 8 a.m. named Seniors Walking Off Weight.
The program is focused on the senior citizens of the Moultrie -Colquitt County area encouraging them to get up and be active.
It will be offered every Tuesday and Thursday at 8.a.m. and will start at the main entrance of the Tom White Linear Park Bike Trail.
LaShay James, community center director, thinks this a great opportunity for the seniors of the city to get involved.
“We really wanted to find something to target seniors because most of the time they are left out,” James said. “We already have a senior citizen group on Monday and, Wednesdays called the Gladiators, and now we want to target them and give them more to do.
According to uplifitngmobility.com the benefits of walking for senior citizens include improved circulation, weight loss, sleep improvement and, joint support.
If the program is successful, don’t be surprised if you see more programs for senior citizens throughout the area.
“If this goes well and the support for it is good, we will be able to do more for the seniors of the city and I can’t wait to see where this goes,” said James.
If you have any questions or would like to be a part of the Seniors Walking Off Weight program, register at the MCCPRA, or call LaShay James at (229)-668-0028 for more information.
