VALDOSTA, Ga. — Everything picked up for No. 7 Lowndes a week after its preseason game.

The Vikings scored on six consecutive offensive possessions, allowed just one score and began their regular season with a bang.

Travis Tisdale rushed for two touchdowns, Andrew Koenemann tossed two more and Lowndes cruised to a 66-7 blowout win against the Drew Titans at Martin Stadium on Friday night.

“I thought we executed well,” Vikings coach Randy McPherson said. “Koenemann did a good job throwing the ball, he had time. The receivers did well. I think we got better from last week.”

Ty Simms and Cornelius Wright both caught TD passes, Tiberius Drocea had a rushing score and Josh Brown recovered a Titan fumble and scored to extend the Vikings’ lead to 52-7 early in the third.

“I actually stopped in the middle of the play, because I thought we already had the ball,” Brown said of the scramble for the fumble. “I started pointing in our direction. Then, the ball was just laying at my feet, so I picked it up and ran with it.”

Lowndes’ remarkable outcome held together through a rocky start.

Drew (0-1) recovered an onside kick to begin the game, before a high snap forced Lowndes (1-0) to erase a potential field goal from Ashton Musgrove on the team’s first offensive possession.

The Titans grabbed momentum when running back Derionte Kemp raced for a 69-yard score with 8:08 left in the opening period.

Despite the setback, the Vikings composed themselves.

They putting together a four-play, 63-yard drive, capped by a 27-yard TD run by Tisdale. Drocea ran across the goal line for a 2-point conversion that gave Lowndes an 8-7 lead they would add to.

A week after blocking a field goal attempt in its preseason game against Bainbridge, Lowndes’ special teams blocked a punt midway through the first quarter. The ball bounced to Willie Brown and he ran to the right side, scoring the team’s second touchdown.

The Vikings went ahead 45-7 at halftime. With more work coming from the passing game than was shown in the preseason tilt, Koenemann hit Wright for a 6-yard score with 1:02 remaining in the opening frame.

“We have a good connection with our quarterback,” Wright said. “He reads the defense, sees things, likes to throw the ball to us and get touchdowns, like we did tonight.”

Koenemann passed for 168 yards, completing 12 of 16 attempts for the Vikings. Tony Wiseman led the team in receiving with 68 yards on four receptions. Simms caught four passes for 56 yards.

“I just trust (Koenemann),” Simms said. “When Joe (Almond) got hurt, he stepped up. I just trust him, my O-line, everybody on the field I work with.”

Lowndes’ Devonn Lane assisted on six tackles, including one for a loss and Cade Powell had three solo tackles.

Lowndes had 441 yards of offense to Drew’s 232.

Titans QB Thomas Williams was 9 of 21 for 120 yards with an interception. Kemp rushed for a game-high 159 yards on 16 carries with a TD. Tyrek Presley had two catches for 50 yards.
