MOULTRIE, Ga. — An Aug. 7 traffic stop led to the arrest of the driver and a teen-age passenger along with the seizure of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

The gray Hyundai was stopped at about 11:18 a.m. at Third Street and Second Avenue Northwest, according to police.

The driver, identified as Shanquille Walker, failed to maintain lane, leading to the traffic stop, said Sgt. Channing McDowell of the Moultrie-Colquitt County Drug Enforcement Team.

“We could immediately smell the odor of green marijuana coming from the car,” McDowell said. “We searched the car we found a black bag containing marijuana that was packaged to sell.”

In addition to the suspected marijuana officers found scales, cash and cigarette rolling papers, he said.

“He had two male juvenile passengers in his vehicle,” McDowell said. “No one wanted to claim the marijuana.”

As a result of the investigation Walker, 23, and the 16-year-old passenger in the front seat were each charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. The other passenger, also 16, was not charged.

The teen-ager who was arrested was released to his mother, McDowell said.
