THOMASVILLE, Ga. — An 80-year-old man is charged with battery in a Friday night incident involving a woman with whom he lives.

When police arrived at the Georgia Avenue residence where the suspect, Johnny Williams, lives with a 59-year-old woman, they listened to each party’s version of what happened.

“At first, (Mr.) Williams stated she (the woman) was trying to stab herself and that during the assault, he pulled her wig off her head,” said Maj. Wade Glover, Thomasville Police Department public information officer.

After talking to the woman and witnesses who said Williams assaulted the victim, the octogenarian was charged with battery and released on his own recognizance.

“He grabbed her,” Glover said. “If you put your hands on somebody, that’s assault. If you strike them, it’s battery.”
