Man charged with aggravated child molestation

DALTON, Ga. — A Dalton man who was brought to the attention of authorities by the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) was charged with two counts of aggravated child molestation and one count of aggravated sodomy of a person under 10. Charles Henson, 36, of 200 Timberland Drive, was charged Tuesday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office. According to an incident report, the investigation began on June 6 after Detective Jeff Wells was contacted by a DFCS official about a possible child molestation. “Basically after Detective Wells got the initial information from DFCS and over the next two months, he was able to determine there were two victims involved and they were both juveniles,” Lt. Scott McAllister said. “There was more evidence that was developed after that, and it resulted in the other charges.” Henson is being held at the county jail without bond. A court date had not been set as of Wednesday afternoon.

Valdosta man killed in two-car collision

VALDOSTA, Ga. — A Valdosta man was killed in a two-car incident shortly after noon Wednesday, according to the Georgia State Patrol. Rahsaan Simon, 40, of Valdosta was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision at the intersection of Loch Laurel and Carroll Ulmer roads, GSP Cpl. Ryan Harding said. He was driving a Nissan Altima north on Loch Laurel Road when the vehicle was struck in the driver’s side by a Chrysler 200 traveling east on Carroll Ulmer Road, according to the GSP report. The Chrysler “failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the intersection of Loch Laurel Road,” according to the GSP. Natalie Wyatt, 18, of Cairo was driving the Chrysler, according to the GSP. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by private vehicle to Archbold Medical Center, troopers report. The investigation of the collision continued Wednesday evening. The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene. It is the second fatal collision this week in Lowndes County. An 18-year-old was killed Sunday in a collision at the intersection of Oak Street Extension and Lake Laurie Drive.

Squabble over donut wrapper brings police

MOULTRIE, Ga. — A dispute over an empty donut package that was not tossed in the garbage sent a Moultrie man to jail on Tuesday. Richard Holt, of 111 Clifton Drive, called police at about 8:51 p.m. When police arrived, Zacharay Scott Murphy, who also lives at the residence, told them that Holt had grabbed his legs and shook them “aggressively” to wake him up while he was sleeping on the couch. Holt told police that he woke Murphy because Murphy ate the donuts and left the empty package on the counter and also threw a tomato at him. The officer noted that it was the second instance he had been dispatched to the residence for a domestic violence call and said he advised the family to try to solve the issues between Holt and Murphy. Holt, 22, was taken into custody on an outstanding probation violation warrant, police said.
