TIFTON — The Temple of Love Ministry sponsored their annual Back To School Fun Day on July 28.

Pastor Robert Howard with Temple of Love Ministry, who sponsored the event, said that they’ve been holding it for the past 20 years.

“We did it for our former church,” Howard said. “We were former members of Strickland Temple Church of God in Christ. We left there and once we started this ministry, we’ve been doing it ever since.”

Howard said that they give all the kids who attend school supplies for the upcoming school year, as well as host fun activities like water slides, bounce houses, dunking booths and games.

The ministry also provided food: barbecue chicken, chili dogs, cole slaw, baked beans, potato salad and funnel cake.

Howard said that putting this city-wide event on was important because many of the attendees don’t have all the supplies they need for the school year.

“Every year we do about 500 to 600 bags of school supplies for the children,” he said. “We’re giving away 10 laptops and two bicycles as prizes. We try to show as much love as we can. We always wish we could do more.”

Howard added that most of the kids who attend never get to go anywhere for the summer.

“For some of the children this is the only outlet that they have,” Howard said. “This is their Wild Adventures.”
