MOULTRIE, Ga. — The Moultrie-Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a hashtag contest to help promote community participation in creating a social media catchphrase that identifies the community.
The contest is the brainchild of the Community Marketing Committee, a group of people assembled by Colquitt County Archway Professional Sarah Adams, the group is comprised of several community partners, who all share the common goal of wanting to promote the community.

A hashtag is a word or phrase, preceded by the pound sign, that’s used to identify messages on a specific topic on social media, such as #TheMoultrieObserver.
Tommie Beth Willis, president of the Moultrie-Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce, thinks this is a great opportunity for the community.
“Social media is a big part of everyday marketing so we wanted to come up with a hashtag that everyone could use when we are promoting something good going on in the community,” said Willis. “When we announced the hashtag contest we had over ten entries within the first hour of making the announcement, and we are very excited to see what the people have submitted.”
Submit your hashtag at the Survey Monkey website — www.surveymonkey.com/r/hx9h7wc. All entries must be submitted by noon, Friday, Aug. 3.
Once all entrants are received they will be sent to Colquitt County High School where they will be narrowed down to ten by the Peer Leadership group; the Community Marketing Committee will select three from the ten as the winners.
The winners will receive $100 Colquitt Cash, a gift card that can be used at 100 Moultrie-Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce member locations.
