MOULTRIE, Ga. — The pollinator garden at R.B. Wright Elementary School in Moultrie recently received a few improvements.
Various new plant types and new informational signs now decorate the garden – making it easier for students and school visitors to understand how significant butterflies and other spring insects are in agriculture. These new additions were funded by the Middle South Georgia Soil and Water Conservation District Environmental & Agricultural Education Grant.
“… We have been able to add entrance signs to our pollinator garden, large informational signs, and many signs throughout to educate everyone that visits,” said Anita Spradley, second grade teacher at R.B. Wright Elementary. “… We are looking forward to continuing to watch our garden grow, increase the pollinators in our area, and educate everyone that visits.”
In March, the district announced that up to $5,500 in grant funds were available for educators and other non-profit organizations located within the Middle South Georgia Conservation District – Ben Hill, Brooks, Colquitt, Crisp, Irwin, Thomas, Tift, Turner and Worth counties. The purpose of the grant is to promote conservation education and make additional resources available to teach students and the community about agriculture and natural resources in new and creative ways. The grants were distributed in April.
