MOULTRIE, Ga. — A venerable Moultrie charity continued its expansion last weekend as volunteers worked to remodel the building that has housed Crossroads Gospel Mission since 1978.
The Crossroads Mission building is used as a transition shelter with a full working staff, giving people the tools to live a fulfilling life.
This past weekend volunteers went ahead with a vital addition to the mission building. Dr. Randy Benner, president and acting director of Crossroads, says this is all part of a bigger vision that they have.
“The building is in dire need of an upgrade,” Benner said. “We are trying to redo the whole building even on the inside. We are hoping that when can gather the funds we can execute the full extent of vision.”
Volunteer workers added vinyl siding to the original side of the building and added to the remodeling of a dorm and a bathroom within the mission house, Benner said. Last fall they added a new roof to the building. He said the board is taking small steps to remodel the building.
The last time the building saw an update was in 1996 when they initially extended the original building.
These current and future upgrades are all made possible through donations through Crossroad’s sponsors and board members.
“All of our money comes from donations,” said Benner. “The United Way, different churches, and individuals have all donated. We have 11 different churches represented on our board of directors, and those individuals have played a huge roll in shaping the vision of Crossroads Mission.”
Crossroads formerly operated a thrift store, but Benner said it closed in December.
