Murray chamber narrows candidates for next president

CHATSWORTH, Ga. — With the Appalachian Regional Port scheduled to open in the northern end of the county in August and a 382-acre industrial park underway in the south end, Murray County is geared for growth, say members of the board of the Chatsworth-Eton-Murray County Chamber of Commerce. And they are currently looking for a president to help the chamber take advantage of that growth. The deadline for applications for the post was Monday, and on Tuesday board Chairman Maria Bradley and members of the nominating committee met to review them. “We had 19 applicants,” Bradley said. “Some were local. Some were from outside Murray County, but all of them were from Georgia. We narrowed that down to seven, and we are going to do interviews with them on July 26. We hope that at our August meeting we will have a candidate for the board to vote on and the new president will start on Oct. 1.” The post of president opened up earlier this year when Dinah Rowe retired after 17 years in the position.

Woman wakes to find bullet hole

MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Moultrie woman woke up on Monday morning to something a little more eye-opening than a cup of coffee — a bullet hole inside her house. Veretha Jackson reported that when she walked into her dining room at about 5:50 a.m. she noticed a hole in her window pane that had not been there when she went to bed that night.  The bullet’s path continued through a dining room wall and it came to rest in another room, police said. Jackson told police that she did not hear any gunfire during the night.
