MOULTRIE, Ga. — The Moultrie Service League held its 2018 Spring Luncheon in May at the Colquitt County Arts Center.
Newly elected officers were installed, special awards presented, and members receiving sustaining status were honored.
This year, the League’s fundraising efforts were a big success! Casino Night, a new fundraiser, was introduced. This was met with great enthusiasm from the community and was very well attended that night. Together with the Santa Stroll ‘n Roll fundraiser and Charleston Wrap sales, they raised over $48,000, which was $16,000 more than what was originally budgeted.
The projects of the Colquitt County Arts Center received the benefits of the League’s efforts. The League’s commitment to the art education of the children of Colquitt County continued through their support of the Program for Exceptional Children (PEC), Art in the Afternoon, and a school art night outreach.
This year, the League, together with the Board of Directors of the Arts Center, chose Stringfellow Elementary School. A hamburger and hotdog supper was provided as well as various art activities for the children to participate in. In addition to the many hours of hard work the members contributed at the Colquitt County Arts Center through volunteering at Kaleidoscope Museum and working at this year’s Dr. Vincent Keesee’s exhibit opening, the League also provides for the museum art supplies and the Kaleidoscope coordinator salary.
The members achieving sustaining status this year were Karen Dell, Amy Griffin, and Rhonda Blanton. All served the Moultrie Service League wholeheartedly over the past eight years.
This year’s Service Award went to Becky Lewis. This award honors the member who the Moultrie Service League membership feels gives to the League over and above in every way.
The President’s Bowl Award went to Carrie Lasseter. This is an award given by the outgoing president to the member who has assisted and supported the president.
Dr. Melanie Wills, a sustaining member of the Moultrie Service League, was chosen by the incoming president to install the 2018-2019 officers. They are: President Jessica Huffman; Vice-President Lauryn Niday; Recording Secretary Becky Lewis; Corresponding Secretary Katie Harrison; Treasurer Beth Bates; and Rebecca Mobley as ex-officio.
