MOULTRIE, Ga. — Police are seeking a suspect in a Saturday drive-by shooting in Moultrie in which a teen-ager was shot five times.
The victim, Lantavious De’John Haynes, 18, was released from the hospital on Friday and jailed on an outstanding probation violation warrant.
Moultrie police identified the suspect as Nathaniel “Nate” Powell IV. Police took out arrest warrants for Powell on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Anyone with information about Powell’s whereabouts is asked to call the Moultrie Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division at (229) 890-5449, or Colquitt County 911.
Haynes was shot five times, police said, while walking with two other teen-agers and an adult, according to police. The shooting occurred at around 1 p.m. in the 1700 block of Third Avenue Southeast.
“The victim was walking, a vehicle pulls up beside them and started shooting,” police Sgt. Shavarye Anderson said. “Several witnesses saw it.”
The first officers to arrive saw Haynes and a teen-ager walking along First Avenue Southeast, with Haynes bleeding heavily from his right arm, police said.
When the officers went to Third Avenue they found five shell casings in the area.
Haynes was taken to Archbold Memorial Hospital. Police initially withheld his name fearing that he could be targeted again.
At this time police have no motive for the shooting, Lt. Freddie Williams said.
