MOULTRIE, Ga. — A teen-aged father accused of killing his infant daughter and a Colquitt County man arrested on child cruelty charges in a separate case were among those recently indicted by a Colquitt County Grand Jury.

Cedric Deshawn Martin Jr., 18, 1327 First Ave. N.W., was indicted on charges of felony murder and cruelty to children in the first degree.

Martin, who was 17 at the time, is accused of killing 2-month-old Zoee Martin. Prosecutors say that Zoee died on Aug. 27, 2017. The investigation into the infant’s death indicated that the infant was thrown down in the bathtub and on the floor of the residence, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

She arrived at Colquitt Regional Medical Center on Aug. 24 with severe injuries. An autopsy performed by the GBI indicated the infant died as the result of head and body trauma.

In an unrelated case, Rafael Ramirez Hernandez Sr., 31, 552 Hiers Ave., was indicted on two counts of cruelty to children in the first degree and two counts cruelty to children in the second degree.

Hernandez and his wife brought 2-month-old Rafael Ramirez Hernandez Jr. to Colquitt Regional in the early morning hours of Nov. 23, 2017. The infant, who was unresponsive when he arrived at the hospital, was taken to UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital in Gainesville.

There, according to police, doctors determined that the baby had suffered severe internal injuries. As a result, the University of Florida’s Child Protection Team and state child protection services in the state launched an investigation. After police interviewed the father upon his return to Georgia he was arrested.
