Young writers honored

MOULTRIE, Ga. — Three Colquitt County students were recognized as regional winners of the 2018 Young Georgia Authors writing competition.
This writing contest, sponsored by Georgia Council of Teachers of English, is open to students in grades K-12 and includes all types of writing such as short stories, poetry, essay, research reports, and other forms.

“The purpose of Young Georgia Authors (YGA) writing competition is to encourage students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing, to provide a context to celebrate their writing successes, and to recognize student achievement in arts and academics,” according to GCTE.
Second grader London Sizemore of Sunset Elementary School, 11th grader Kaleb Spradley of Colquitt County High School, and 12th grader German Llamas, also of CCHS, were recently recognized as the Coastal Plain Regional Education Services Agency’s regional winners.
All three had first won their grade levels. Other grade-level winners included Lydia Ann Bundy, kindergarten, Doerun Elementary; Shayla Giang, first grade, Sunset Elementary; Jackson Edwards, third grade, Hamilton Elementary; Braelen Griner, fourth grade, Hamilton Elementary; McCain Still, fifth grade, GEAR; Christian Mata, sixth grade, Willie J. Williams Middle School; Enyer Oliveras, seventh grade, Willie J. Williams Middle School; Lilla Craft, eighth grade, C.A. Gray Junior High School; Joshua Doile, ninth grade, C.A. Gray; and Rachel Moctezuma, 10th grade, CCHS.
