Two teens seriously injured in accident

- Two Suwannee County teenagers were light-flighted in serious condition following an accident Monday afternoon.
WELLBORN, Fla. — Two Suwannee County teenagers were seriously injured in a two-car crash Monday afternoon.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 18-year-old Elayna Coombs, of Live Oak, was traveling east on U.S. Highway 90 at 2:30 p.m. near the intersection with County Road 10-A in eastern Suwannee County near the Columbia County line.
Destiny Romine, an 18-year-old from Wellborn, was driving west on U.S. 90 at the same time, according to the FHP report.
The report states Coombs’ Ford Escape crossed into the westbound lane and hit the front end of Romine’s Chevrolet Blazer.
The Escape ended up in the ditch on the north side of the road, while the Blazer overturned into a driveway on the north side of the road.
Coombs was life-flighted to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville in serious condition and Romine was life-flighted to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center, also in serious condition. A 12-year-old passenger in Romine’s Blazer was taken to Shands Live Oak Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
According to Suwannee County Fire Rescue, patients had to be extricated from the vehicles.
Coombs was charged with failure to drive in a single lane.
