CAIRO, Ga. — On a warm spring day, vehicles hauling boats to and from Tired Creek Lake and anglers of all ages lined the water body’s banks.
The lake officially opened for fishing Friday before Memorial Day weekend.
Latasha Vicks, a Grady County native, said she had “been hearing all the talk” about Tired Creek Lake.
Vicks, who was fishing with family members, caught five fish. Her daughter caught seven.
The fish caught were of a variety, Vicks said.
“I went and got licensed just for this and it was worth it,” she added.
Michelle Derico caught 10 fish with her granddaughter.
“I just love to fish,” she said. “I was just anxious to get out here and see what we could do.”
Kendrick Powell and John Taylor, two Thomasville residents, started finishing at 6:30 Friday morning and fished well into the afternoon.
Powell said the two caught more than 20 different fish, including bass and bream.
“A couple different kinds of bream at that,” Taylor said of the fishing haul.
Spending a majority of the day out on Tired Creek Lake, Taylor said the waterscape was “really nice.”
“If it’s maintenanced properly, it’s a very nice facility,” he added.
