Thank you for supporting veterans

Thank you for the tremendous coverage of our veterans and veteran organizations this week. Your front page articles assist our organizations in raising awareness and donations for the worthy cause of honoring and helping the thousands of veterans in our communities. The encouragement of your articles helps us in the organizations to better recruit, retain and expand our many services to both veterans and non veterans.
For you see, every veteran we help as a team also helps that veteran’s family and friends. Weekly bus rides to the VA, helping vets in crisis, and regularly working at the food bank as well as assisting in our local churches and civic organizations are cornerstones of aid that these veterans do for other veterans and for the community at large.
Hoyt Holland was the first one to let me know just how much the community cared for veterans when he described to me on a bus ride to Lake City how the local VFW and the Volunteer Auxiliary of Colquitt Regional partnered together with the Southwest Georgia Veterans’ Activities (commonly called the bus committee) to raise money for the veterans bus. Many churches in the area regularly make and pack the lunches for the bus’s afternoon return trip from the doctor. The Lion’s Club and other organizations also regularly donate to the cause.
And let’s don’t forget the substantial, generous donation of Southwest Georgia Bank in funding our annual breakfast for our vets during Veterans Day week.
Thank you again for being such an important player in letting our lights shine on helping our communities and our veterans. You have truly done honor to the military appreciation month of May!
