CCREA installs officers, presents scholarships

CCREA Education Scholarships were presented to Savannah Richardson, teacher at Charlie A. Gray Jr. Middle School; Kim May, teacher at Hamilton Elementary School; Cora Jean Taylor, member CCREA; Anna Denson Cutts, teacher at Colquitt County High School; Sarah Mashburn Scholarship presented to Lori Ann King, teacher at Colquitt County High School; and Education Scholarship presented to Kelly Howell, teacher at Colquitt County High School.

MOULTRIE, Ga. — Colquitt County Retired Educators Association celebrated recently by gathering for a luncheon and general meeting, held at the Moultrie First Presbyterian Church Social Hall.

Member Maureen Yearta conducted the “Installation of Officers” for 2018-2019, using a chocolate candy theme. A candlelight service, presented by Carol Ann Horne and Wanda Vickers, was held fordeceased member and educator, Ms. Mildred Rentz. A gardening book has been selected and placed at the local library in Rentz’ memory.

Member Cora Jean Taylor recognized the 2017-2018 CCREA Scholarship recipients: $500 Education Scholarships were presented to Savannah Richardson, teacher at Charlie A. Gray Jr. Middle School; Kim May, teacher at Hamilton Elementary School; Anna Denson Cutts at Colquitt County High School; and Kelly Howell, teacher at Colquitt County High School. The Sarah Mashburn Scholarship recipient is Lori Ann King, teacher at Colquitt County High School.

The Rev. Jimmy Voyles, PhD, of Crosland Baptist Church, gave the devotion and blessing of food. Voyles encouraged all to love and appreciate friends, especially Jesus.

President Julia J. Dorminey introduced Andrew Christensen, executive director of Colquitt County Food Bank. A check was presented to the Food Bank for $1,372. Christensen discussed the importance of the donations made by CCREA members and meals served to families in Colquitt County.

A Community Service report was presented with 4,628 hours for the year. Carol Ann Horne presented member, Faye Rowe, with the “Community Service” award for 355 volunteer hours. President Dorminey presented “Certificates of Appreciation” awards to Janice Barry, Cathy Elrod, Elizabeth Jarvis, and Wanda Vickers. The “Emeritus” member present, Lillar Shepheard, was recognized.

CCREA is a local organization of retired educators that meet monthly on the second Monday of the month. All retired educators are invited to join and support this organization.
