RANCHETTES, Fla. — With a Suwannee County man missing for nearly a month and no new information coming in, the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office brought in two new helpers Monday morning.

Judy Thigpin and Judy McKee brought their cadaver dogs Kylee and Geena to the Ranchettes community in southeastern Suwannee County for a search around the area where John Frank Carlisle had been living with a friend before his April 24 disappearance.

“We’re just trying to cover all our bases and make sure we don’t miss anything,” Sheriff Sam St. John said Monday after the search, which lasted until the middle of the afternoon, the effort didn’t turn up anything new. He stressed that there had been no information suggesting a search in a particular area or that Carlisle was dead.

The 40-year-old Carlisle, 5-foot-5 and 200 pounds, last had contact with his friend and roommate April 24 after an argument with his mother.

Authorities say Carlisle, who has black hair, green eyes, a full beard and a scar on the end of his nose, left with just a small amount of cash.

In the month since there have been no reported sightings of Carlisle, who also hasn’t had contact with his family.

The search conducted Monday morning follows a handful of searches in the area by various officers.

“The family is real concerned,” St. John said. “This is one of the options that we said we could do and they were really wanting us to do it. And we were too.

“It’s just odd that we’re not getting anything from anybody. No one’s finding anything or nobody has seen him or he’s calling anybody. It’s just odd.”

It was the second search in as many days for McKee and Geena after spending Sunday in Alabama.

Both McKee and Thigpin said they are willing to help wherever help is needed, mainly in the southeast, or find help.

“I think my second search was in Suwannee County,” Thigpin recalled. “I think I’ve worked with three or four sheriffs now.

“So I’m always willing to come help in Suwannee County. Well, any county. But Suwannee County is always one that has taken care of us.”

But Geena and Kylee were not able to locate Carlisle, or any remains, during Monday’s search around the residence in Ranchettes or near the Keg Room Bar on State Road 247 where Carlisle was known to visit.

While Geena is trained just to search for human remains, Thigpin said Kylee is cross-trained, able to search for both remains and people who are alive.

Still, she said the dogs usually will be able to find either, depending on what is out there.

“We just don’t get many calls for live persons because people have cell phones now and call 911,” she said. “Which is awesome.”

But Carlisle left his wallet and phone behind when he left a month ago. So no calls for help have come in. And no way for law enforcement to track the phone.

Instead the search will continue with St. John urging anybody with any information to call the SCSO at 386-362-2222.

“We’re just hoping getting the word back out there, maybe that this will spark some interest and somebody will see it,” he said. “Or maybe he’ll see it himself and give us a call.”
