TIFTON, Ga. — The Tifton Terminal Railway Museum will be celebrating National Train Day on Saturday, May 12, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The event will be held at the museum, located at 120 South Tift Avenue in Downtown Tifton. The museum is housed in the old train depot, which is more than 100 years old.
Todd Tate, the head of the South Georgia Model Railway Club, said that National Train Day is officially on May 10, which is the anniversary of the completion of the United States Transcontinental Railroad in 1869. The celebration is usually held on the closest Saturday to that date.
Attendees can see exhibits about railroad history, tools and equipment. Railway motorcars and antique tractors, cars and engines will be on display as well.
Georgia Southern and Florida Railway T-Trak will have a N scale model railroad exhibit.
A concert featuring “Old Friends” will play live bluegress-gospel music.
The Veterans Exhibit, housed next door, will also be open courtesy of the American Legion Post 21 Motorcycle Riders.
