VALDOSTA – In honor of the recent Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Valdosta Exchange Club hosted its annual Mom’s Night Out event last month at the local Southside Recreation Department.

Guest speakers encouraged participants and single moms about overcoming adversity, setting positive examples for their children and empowering them to move forward. Raffle items, dinner and childcare including a sand art activity were provided to all participants, according to organizers.

The Exchange Club of Valdosta works to support its national project, child abuse prevention, through events creating more awareness so the cycle of violence impacts our community.

Studies show childhood abuse is often a predictor for juvenile delinquency, early pregnancy, substance abuse, mental health issues and adult criminal activity, according to club members. Exchange is a service organization with programs dedicated to youth, community and country.
