THOMASVILLE, Ga. — Two Thomasville natives want to give locals the opportunity to break into showbiz.

Production will begin soon on “The Last Name,” a short film based on a novel by Eric Dodson, who will co-direct the film.

The film tells the story of two high school sweethearts. Collin, the male lead, gets a medical diagnosis that changes his life, said Brad Wheeler, also co-director.

“It’s essentially a love story,” Wheeler said.

For the production, three roles are vacant. The male lead and two male supporting roles are needed to be cast, Wheeler said.

“We have a couple (roles) that we’ve already cast,” he added. “We want to keep it local.”

Karina Morgan Willis will portray Madison, the female lead.

Willis had a supporting role in Wheeler’s previous film “Celeste,” which was filmed and produced in Thomasville.

“She really, really worked hard on ‘Celeste,’” Wheeler said of Willis.

Filming will be a “really quick production,” Wheeler said, taking place over a weekend.

Production locales are still in the works but will be Thomasville-based like “Celeste,” Wheeler said.
