Kiwanis Club honors scholarship winners

MOULTRIE, Ga. — The Kiwanis Club of Moultrie recently honored local 2018 scholarship winners.

The William Banks Withers Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Mary Grace Watson. This scholarship is awarded to a student who has shown outstanding leadership. Watson has been very involved in both her community and her school. She has held a leadership position in the Key Club all four years of high school. Her favorite activity has been selling Yuda Bands to help raise money for a student’s education in Guatemala. She has also been involved in the CCHS choral department, the CCHS varsity tennis team, United Way, Camp Winshape, Humane Society, the Children’s Cheer and Toy Shop, First Baptist Church’s youth praise band, Special Olympics, Sunbelt Ag Expo and the Moultrie YMCA. She has excelled academically with a 99 percent GPA and class rank of seven out of 538 students.

The Elsie Creech Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Patti Mitchell, who has demonstrated mastery of college work while participating in extracurricular activities. Mitchell excels with an overall GPA of 3.98 and a class ranking of second. She has participated in Key Club, FFA, and CCHS math club as well as volunteering at Heritage Church, the Moultrie YMCA, Humane Society and Magnolia Manor, and she is an active member of youth activities at Okapilco Baptist Church. She is also a member of the CCHS swim team and cross country team.

The Nita Belle Scarbrough Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Kelsee Brady, who achieved good grades and test scores while also participating in extracurricular activities. Brady has an overall GPA of 101 and an SAT score of 1440. She is ranked third in her class and has served as secretary and treasurer for the Key Club. She has been a student advisory board representative at the high school and participated in CCHS Serenaders. She also volunteers at church and is an active member in her youth group.
