South Georgia’s heating up

VALDOSTA — Sometimes no news is good news.

No rain and no severe weather are in the cards for South Georgia this week, according to forecasters.

“It’s going to be pretty uneventful,” said Matthew Greene, a meteorologist with the private forecasting firm AccuWeather.

The National Weather Service expects sunny and mostly sunny skies over Valdosta all week, said Jeanie McDermott, a meteorologist with the weather service’s Tallahassee, Fla., office.

“We’re getting into more of a normal weather pattern for this time of year,” she said.

A high-pressure system is keeping South Georgia dry, McDermott said. South Georgia daytime high temperatures start the week in the mid-80s and are expected to climb into the low 90s by the weekend, according to the weather service’s forecast. The average high temperature for Valdosta at this time of year is 85, Greene said. Overnight lows should run from 58-60 degrees, he said.

Greene and McDermott said there is little chance of rain this week, though Greene said he couldn’t rule out a slight chance of an isolated shower with a weak cold front coming through South Georgia Monday.

“However, there is neither much moisture nor much cool air coming in behind this front,” he said.

The forecasters agreed there won’t be much of a chance of severe weather in the area this week.
