MOULTRIE, Ga. — A shoplifting suspect on Thursday eluded store security and made it to his car, but he quickly surrendered after two police officers converged on him.
Police were called at 12:35 p.m. to Wal-Mart, where an employee had reported a shoplifter who was still inside the store. The man, later identified as Donald Ray Miller, ran outside and got into a white GMC Yukon, police said.
As the Yukon pulled onto Veterans Parkway South a Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office deputy got behind the vehicle and a Moultrie Police Department patrol car approaching in the opposite direction turned around. The driver turned into the parking lot of another store, police said. One officer stayed behind the Yukon and the other turned onto Fifth Avenue Southeast to cut it off.
Miller stopped the Yukon on Kingwood Garden Drive, police said. After he was taken into custody he told the deputy where the stolen merchandise was inside the vehicle. The items, valued at $138, were recovered.
Miller, 48, 1203 Stephen Lane, was charged with theft by shoplifting.
