The event is an opportunity for downtown businesses to highlight their specialties and give back to the community at the same time, according to Lequrica Gaskins, executive director for the Downtown Development Authority.

She said that the extravaganza is the spring equivalent to a similar event in the fall which benefits the Alzheimer’s Association. Proceeds from the spring event will benefit the Coastal Plain CASA.

Shoppers will have the opportunity to register to win a $250 shopping spree by signing up at participating stores downtown.

Starting at noon, the Legal Food Frenzy and music event will kick off in Veteran’s Park.

The Legal Food Frenzy is a two week food and fund drive competition done in partnership with the Georgia Attorney General, the State Bar and the Georgia Food Bank Association.

All goods and funds donated stay local and benefit the regional food bank that serves Tifton.

There will be slides, games and face painting, as well as “touch-a-truck” and adoptable pets from the Tift County Animal Shelter.

An interactive music workshop will begin at 4 p.m., Daniel Parrish will be on stage at 5 p.m. and Sailing to Denver begins playing at 6:30 p.m.

While there is no admission, non-perishable food items and monetary donations are encouraged.

Then Saturday evening, the Veterans Memorial Park will present its annual Gospel Concert, 7 p.m. at Tift Theatre on Main Street.

The Diamonds will perform, along with The Days, featuring Chuck and Greg Day, writers of the gospel song “The Midnight Cry.”

Tickets are $12 at the door.
