VALDOSTA, Ga. — In wakeboarding, a yard sale is when a rider crashes so hard all of the gear is thrown across the water.

From Friday to Sunday, April 27-29, the Valdosta Wake Compound will host its Second Annual Yard Sale event with professional wakeboarders from across the world competing at the local compound, 2314 Old Clyattville Road.

Luke Tilt, co-owner, said it is an international competition where about 30 riders have been invited to compete. Those not invited will get a chance to compete Friday during qualifying. The top four riders will qualify to compete against the pros, Tilt said.

Tickets for qualifying cost $100 and qualifying begins 9:30 a.m.

Spectators will have seating available to watch as boarders ride the full-sized cable around the lake at the compound.

“This will be the heaviest riding in the world,” Tilt said. “The talent here will be insane.”

He said the Valdosta Wake Compound’s course is challenging and can be dangerous.

“It’s just crazy when these guys get on the course to see all the tricks they can do,” he said.

Tilt said most similar events happen in Europe and the event is a great opportunity for people interested in getting started in wakeboarding.

“This will be a great opportunity for anyone interested in wakeboarding to see and meet professionals in the sport,” he said.
