TIFTON, Ga. — Region 3-AAA in the Georgia Independent School Association ended its region schedule Friday night, but the region championship is still up in the air.
Tiftarea Academy fell at Deerfield-Windsor, 7-6, in extra innings Friday, knotting the two at the top of the region standings with equal records of 5-3. The teams split regular season games, Tiftarea winning Tuesday, 3-2.
The champion and top seed out of Region 3-AAA will be determined Wednesday.
Tiftarea baseball announced Friday night on Facebook that another game will be played between the two teams. It is set for Wednesday, at home in Chula. A time was not announced.
Region 3-AAA barely avoided a bigger logjam because of a Friday upset. Southland Academy, which had a 4-3 record in conference play, was defeated by Brookwood School, 9-4. Brookwood had previously fallen to the Raiders, 17-2.
Even with the extra game for Wednesday, Tiftarea will have plenty of time to prepare for the state playoffs. The first round is scheduled to start May 4. The Panthers, who will finish as the No. 1 or No. 2 seed from Region 3, will host this round, which will be against an opponent from Region 2.
