MOULTRIE, Ga. — Recently, the Packer Health Clinics (at Cox, Okapilco, Odom and Stringfellow Elementary schools) received the 2018 School Based Telehealth Program of the Year award for Georgia at the 2018 School Based Telehealth annual conference.

The Packer Health Clinics at each of these locations offer students and staff the availability to be seen virtually by either Dr. Patricia Lee June or Cassidy Fowler, CNP (Certified Nurse Practitioner) at the Norman Park Family Medicine Clinic for acute illnesses. Colquitt Regional Medical Center and Colquitt County Board of Education partnered to make this a reality for our community.

This service is very beneficial in the respect that students can be seen and remain at school, unless they are diagnosed with an illness that is contagious, according to a press release from the school system. If medication is needed it is called into the pharmacy of choice. The nurse can test for flu, strep throat and do urinalysis. This same opportunity is available to staff members at these schools.

“We are thankful to be able to offer such a valuable service to students and staff,” said Colquitt County Schools’ School Nurse Coordinator Suzanne Sumner. “The program is in its fourth year of operation and seeing much success. It is truly rewarding to have the efforts of our partnership making such a difference. It is especially gratifying for those efforts to also be recognized at the state level.”

If your child attends one of these schools and is not signed up for Packer Health, the school system asks that you call the school nurse.
