5 FFA’ers named state finalists

MOULTRIE, Ga. — Five Colquitt County FFA members have been named state finalists with their agricultural proficiency projects.

Agricultural Proficiencies are based off of a student’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Project, an agriculture-related project that a student completes outside of the classroom.

All five will compete this April at the Georgia State FFA Convention in Macon, Ga.

Mary Logan Tostenson, daughter of Kyle and Wendi Tostenson, is a finalist in Specialty Animal Production. Tostenson has built her own hives and added bees to them from the local apiary, Rossman Apiaries. She is working towards extracting her own honey and eventually selling it, while helping pollinate local farmers’ crops.

Garrett Griner, son of Keith and Monica Griner, is a finalist in Wildlife Management. Griner helps in the daily operations on his family’s quail farm. He is responsible for managing workers, checking on the water feeders, feeding and the delivery of quail.

Libba Johnson, daughter of Scott and Laura Perry Johnson, is a finalist in Small Animal Production. Johnson runs an AKC-registered English bulldog kennel. She is responsible for the daily operations of the kennel as well as the breeding of the dogs.

Montana Hall, daughter of Michael and Teresa Hall, is a finalist in the area of Equine Science Placement. Hall teaches horse riding lessons through her father’s business. She teaches children how to properly tack a horse, the basics of riding, and how to barrel race.

Mary Grace Harbin, daughter of Tim and Pam Harbin, is a finalist in Outdoor Recreation. Harbin volunteers at Reed Bingham State Park in Adel, where she assists campers at Junior Ranger Camps and helps with park clean up days.
