DALTON, Ga. — A driver whose vehicle struck another vehicle from behind, triggering a three-vehicle wreck that sent two people to the hospital Friday morning, has been arrested and faces DUI and other charges.
Alec Matthew Harrison, 25, of 700 Skylark Place-202, Dalton, was charged by the Dalton Police Department with possession of a schedule 4 drug, possession of meth, DUI (drugs), possession and use of drug-related objects, willful obstruction of law officers, driving too fast for conditions, failure to maintain lane and a safety belts violation. The wreck happened in front of the Daily Citizen-News office at about 9:45 a.m.
According to a Dalton Police Department statement, Harrison was driving a 2011 Nissan Versa south on Thornton Avenue when the vehicle struck the rear of a 2014 Toyota Tacoma driven by Christopher Taylor, 51, of Signal Mountain, Tenn. Taylor was stopped at the intersection in the turning lane for a red light. The Versa rolled over on to its top into the northbound lanes of Thornton. A 2006 Chevrolet Silverado that had turned north on Thornton Avenue at the intersection struck the Versa. The Silverado was driven by Alejandro Lopez, 45, of Dalton.
Capt. Chip Whitfield of the Dalton Police Department said the drivers of the Versa and the Silverado were taken to Hamilton Medical Center.
Harrison was still in the Whitfield County jail Monday afternoon and has a bond hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
