MOULTRIE, Ga. — The National Alliance on Mental Illness  is seeking participants in a youth mental health course that forms the backbone of a four-part pilot program announced last month.

Youth in Crisis is designed specifically for law enforcement, school counselors, child/adolescent health providers and NAMI representatives, according to a release from NAMI’s Moultrie chapter.

The training, which the release calls “foundational to implementing the initiative,” will be held June 6-8 in the NAMI-Georgia office in Atlanta. Lodging is covered by NAMI-Georgia, and there is no charge for registration. Registration is required. Email Lynn Wilson at lynnbw45@gmail.com.

The Youth in Crisis course is the first of four courses that, taken together, will help to address the mental health needs of children and youth, according to information presented at a March 27 stakeholders meeting. Other classes will include NAMI Basics, a class for parents and other family caregivers; Parents and Teachers as Allies, which is designed for school personnel; and Ending the Silence, which is designed for middle and high school aged youth.

Dates for other courses have not been announced yet.
