Three cars among thefts reported since Friday

MOULTRIE, Ga. — Three cars, a pistol, lottery tickets and quarters someone had brought to use at a car wash were among nearly $18,000 in property reported stolen over the weekend.

On Monday, Irene Fuentes of the 100 block of South Academy Street, Funston, reported that a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe valued at $14,000.

Fuentes reported to police that the vehicle was stolen between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m.

On Saturday, police found a 1994 Nissan Maxima with a flat tire parked in the middle of the roadway near the intersection of Seventh Avenue and South Main Street. When officers contacted the owner — Christopher Burks, 45, Moultrie — he told police them the car, valued at $2,000, had been stolen.

On Friday, Alejandro Malagon, Moultrie, reported the theft of a 2006 Chevrolet Suburban valued at $2,500 from the 100 block of Fireplace Lane.

Neither had been reported as being located as of Monday afternoon and no arrests had been made.

Auto parts hidden in shopper’s purse

A thief walked out with $60 worth of automotive parts on Monday after opening a package in the restroom and apparently concealing the merchandise in her purse.

Moultrie police were dispatched at about 6:31 p.m. to O’Reilly’s Auto Parts, 720 First Ave. S.E. to a reported shoplifting.

An employee reported that he showed a man and woman headlight bulbs matching those they had requested. The woman then went into the restroom and using a sharp object of some kind was able to cut open the package.

The woman then walked outside where the man was waiting in a white Ford Expedition.

After finding the empty package inside the restroom the employee confronted the two in the car and they drove away.

The bulbs were valued at $63.

Sheriff’s Office

• Family Dollar, 2795 West Blvd., reported Sunday that a male, accompanied by a female, stole a pair of reading glasses valued at $6.

• Chris Watson, 300 block North Green Street, reported Monday the theft of a riding lawn mower valued at $2,500.

Watson told police that he had learned that a male acquaintance sold the lawn mower in Tennessee.

Moultrie Police

• Kyle Singletary, Leesburg, reported Friday the theft of a tablet computer valued at $300 that later was recovered.

Singletary told police that while he wasworking at Bob & Ann’s store, 1221 Hwy. 133 S., someone picked up the tablet.

Store video showed a man, who was identified by a witness at the store, conceal the tablet under his jacket and enter the restroom.

As the officer was investigating, the man identified by the customer returned. That man told police that he was taking the tablet to a phone service company to determine to whom it belonged.

Police took Christopher Lee Jones, 32, 18324 Hwy. 33, Pavo, into custody. He was charged with theft by taking, police said.

• Theresa Chastain, 32, Hartsfield, reported Friday the theft of $10 in quarters she was going to use at a car wash in the 500 block of Rowland Drive.

• Somesh Package store,  205 Fifth St. S.E., reported Saturday that a man walked out of the store at about 8:30 p.m. with a case of Seagram’s gin valued at $120.

The man returned at about 11:02 p.m., a store employee told police, and caused a distraction while a second male grabbed another case of the product.

The second male ran away with the stolen gin and the first male was able to walk out unnoticed. However, the thefts were recorded on video.

• Rameshbhai Patel, 44, Moultrie, reported the theft of merchandise, including Georgia Lottery Corp. tickets, totaling $601, at Quik Mart 21, 1100 W. Central Ave.

Police arrested Dennis Hightower, 42, 424 10th St. N.W., and charged him with theft by taking.

• Save-A-Lot, 205 Sixth St. S.E., reported Saturday that a shoplifter stole an unknown amount of merchandise.

An employee told police that the male suspect was conspicuous as he walked rapidly towards the exit and out of the store, where he got on a red bicycle he had placed on the side of the building.

• Gary Heald, 55, Thomasville, reported Saturday the theft of a Taurus pistol and box of ammunition with a total value of $270 from a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado parked in the 500 block of Veterans Parkway North.

• Donald Kent Golden, 44, 130 Oak St., Omega, was charged Sunday with brakes required, seat belt violation, turn signal violation, driving without license and failure to drive within single lane.

• Rocky Lee Wise, 28, 1163 Hall Road, was charged Saturday with simple battery.

• Julian Stacey Thaggard, 50, 2350 Funston-Doerun Road, was charged Saturday with reckless conduct.

• Quyouna Tishika Edwards, 22, 2703 New Castle Lane, Albany, was charged Friday with failure to obey yield sign and driving while license withdrawn.

• Angela Lorette Twigs, 38, 311 W. Bethel Road, was charged Friday with disorderly conduct and public indecency.

• Sarahi Rodriguez-Coronoa, 20, 589 Circle Road, was charged Monday with defective equipment and driving without license.

• Denise Wise, 1100 block Hall Road, reported Sunday that two male relatives got into a fight inside the residence they share.

Wise told police that one of the men pushed the other one, causing him to fall backward into some chairs and then fall to the floor.

Williams Bivins had redness and swelling around an eye, a cut to the left ear and swelling to the back of his head, but he refused medical treatment.

• Kenneth Hanson, 200 block Arrowhead Trail, reported Sunday an incident of battery in the 200 block of DeMott Road.

• Melanie Carlton, 1200 block J.P. Perry Road, Norman Park, reported Friday that someone opened a bank card account in her name in 2016 and had charged some $778 on it, including paying a light bill and renting a storage building.

• Angela O’Grady, 800 block U.S. Highway 319 North, reported Friday that money had been withdrawn from her bank account, with 16 charges made totaling $451.

• Precious Hillie, 1200 block West Central Avenue, reported Monday a case of financial transaction card fraud in the amount of $840.

• Rodney Herndon, 900 block Ninth Avenue Southeast, reported Tuesday that a male acquaintance broke a window of his residence with a pipe.
