McRAE – The Colquitt County High girls golf team placed second in Monday’s Middle Georgia Girls Classic, with senior Elizabeth Funderburk claiming low medalist honors in a tie-breaker.

The tournament, which was hosted by Bleckley County, was played at the Little Ocmulgee course.

The tournament, in a play-four, count-two format, was won by Creekview, which shot 170.

The Lady Packers were two shots back at 172.

The rest of the field included Bleckley County, at 177; Vidalia, 191; Dodge County, 203; and Crisp County, 217.

Funderburk tied with Creekside’s Peyton Rich for the tournament’s best score with a 78.

Bleckley County’s Brooke Creig completed the all-tournament team. She shot an 81.

Also playing for Colquitt County were Chloe Howell, who shot 94; Madison Willis, 96; and Cate Tyler, 104.

The play-four, count-two format was used because Bleckley County is a Class AA school and that is the format that classification uses.

Lady Packers coach Donald Dale saw the course for the first time and came away impressed.

“It’s a beautiful course,” he said. “And it was a pretty nice tournament.”

This was the second time Funderburk carded a round of 78 in tournament play over a three-day span.

On Saturday, Colquitt County played in the Lady Viking Invitational held at Kinderlou. Funderburk and her teammates tied for third place with Carrollton High while the event was won by Woodward Academy. Valdosta took second. Coffee, Tift, Ware, Lowndes and Camden completed the field

The Lady Packers are now preparing for Saturday’s Lady Packer Invitational, which is schedule to tee off at 1 p.m. at Sunset Country Club.

Because many north Georgia high schools, which might have entered the tournament, are on spring break this week, the field is smaller than hoped, Dale said.

Joining the Lady Packers in the event will be Tift County, Lee County, Brookstone of Columbus, Westminster of Atlanta, Bleckley County and Camden County.
