THOMASVILLE — A 54-year-old Cairo man died Saturday in a one-vehicle crash on the north bypass near U.S. 84 West, according to the Georgia State Patrol

Vincent Bernard Lewis was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer westbound when the vehicle ran off the highway and he overcorrected, said GSP Sgt. Jeff Culpepper of Thomasville Post 12.

The Explorer rolled over three times.

“During the process of rolling over, he was ejected from the vehicle and was dead at the scene,” the trooper said. “We suspect alcohol was involved.”

Culpepper said alcohol-related evidence was recovered at the crash scene.

Lewis was traveling alone at the time of the 3 p.m. crash.

In pointing out the importance of wearing seatbelts, the trooper said, “Anytime someone is ejected, the odds of being killed or seriously injured increase dramatically.”
