THOMASVILLE — The owner of Southern States Insulation, now located in Adel, wants to move the business to Red Hills Business Park in Thomas County.

Owner Corey Sumner, a Thomasville native and resident, said his industry has been in Adel for four years, after being in Valdosta for 15 years.

Sumner told Thomasville Payroll Development Authority (PDA) members Monday he is interested in “a couple of acres.”

No businesses have located at the U.S. 319 North business park.

“He seems a perfect fit for our park,” Shelly Zorn, PDA executive director, said at the Monday PDA meeting.

Sumner said he is working on drawings for a business park facility

“I do not want to put a metal building on a dirt plot,” he said.

His business now employs 11 people. Sumner said Adel does not have a large labor pool, but he thinks that will change in Thomasville and hopes to employ up to 20 during his first year in operation here.

“I could use five people right now,” he said.

Sumner said he turns proposals away because he does not have enough personnel.

Thomasville would be the only location for Sumner’s company.

He hopes employees at his business will move to Thomasville. Most, he said, live in TIfton and Moultrie.

Sumner said that as soon as a building is complete here, he would start recruiting more employees.

The company installs insulation in heating-and-cooling systems and in plumbing.

“It’s all commercial, industrial,” Sumner said.
