The Chatsworth Police Department and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating after a man died from injuries sustained Tuesday morning at the Mohawk Industries facility at 1149 Duvall Road in Chatsworth.

CHATSWORTH, Ga. — A Crandall man died after being injured at the Mohawk Industries facility at 1149 Duvall Road in Chatsworth Tuesday morning, the second person to die from injuries at the site in the last seven months.

Chatsworth Police Chief Josh Etheridge said 59-year-old Roy Glenn Bass died at Murray Medical Center after being struck by a large roller. On Sept. 1 of last year, 42-year-old Vickie Dyer of Chatsworth died “following an industrial accident” at the same location, according to a statement issued by the company at that time.

In a statement by the company on Tuesday, Mohawk said the “cause of the accident” involving Bass “remains unknown at this time.”

“We are deeply saddened by Glenn’s passing,” said Jerry Hendrix, vice president of human resources, in the statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.”

The company’s statement said Bass joined Mohawk in April 2012, working as an electrician at the Mohawk facility on Virgil Drive in Dalton before transferring to the Chatsworth location in September 2015.

Tuesday’s incident happened at 8:41 a.m.

“Despite the best efforts of Mohawk employees and first responders, (Bass) passed away at the Murray Medical Center,” Etheridge said in a press release. 

He said in addition to the police, personnel from the Murray County Fire Department and Murray County Emergency Medical Service responded.

“Everyone at the company appreciates the prompt response of local firefighters and EMTs,” Hendrix said in the Mohawk statement. “We are grateful for their extraordinary efforts on site and en route to the hospital.”

Etheridge said the police department’s investigation is open, pending the results of an autopsy, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating as well. Emails to OSHA Atlanta office spokesman Michael D’Aquino seeking information on the status of the investigation into the September incident were not immediately returned Tuesday afternoon.
