MOULTRIE, Ga. — The Moultrie YMCA is working to open a new location in the heart of downtown Moultrie.

Recently, the Y team set out to create an 18-month plan that would drive the Y to serve more and be more for the community, according to a press release from the organization. Part of that initiative involved the Y creating a location that could be used by populations that might not have accessibility to the main branch.

“The addition of the Downtown Y will provide a wellness opportunity that they can walk to,” the press release said. “The Downtown Y will also be a great option for those who work nearby that are looking for a quick workout before work, during lunch or after a long day.”

The downtown location will feature circuit equipment, cardio equipment, free weights, a stack machine and a Mind/Body Studio that will hold small group yoga, pilates and new barre classes.

Renovations are happening now to bring a new fresh look to the building. The Downtown Y is slated to open mid-April and will be used by Y members during the main branch Wellness Center renovation.

“The Y has a lot of exciting things that are launching in the next several months,” said Rich Gallagher, CEO and president, ”The Downtown Y is just one of those, but one that we are exceptionally proud of. We strive to do everything with excellence and we will bring that same outlook with the Downtown location.”

The Moultrie YMCA looks to give tours during the Annual Spring Fling that will be held April 21 on the square. They will also have volleyball, parachute fun, gymnastics, an exciting obstacle course and 3-on-3 basketball tournaments.
