THOMASVILLE — A 48-year-old woman was charged with cruelty to persons over age 65 when she took her mother to the Archbold Memorial Hospital emergency room late Friday night.
“Pamela Graham brought her mother to the hospital for some injuries on her body,” said Sgt. Toby Knifer, assistant commander of the Thomasville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.
The 82-year-old victim had deep sores on her body, Knifer said, adding that an examination showed medical care should have been provided before the elderly woman was taken to the hospital.
The victim, who Knifer described as frail, is in the intensive care unit at Archbold Memorial Hospital.
“It appeared the victim had laid stationary for some time,” Knifer said.
Graham failed to provide adequate medical attention and did not physically abuse her mother, Knifer said.
“She is not able to walk. She has to be carried,” the detective said about the victim.
Graham was charged with elder abuse, a felony. She was released from the Thomas County Jail on her own recognizance after receiving a $3,100 bond.
The investigation is continuing, pending the elderly woman’s condition.
