MOULTRIE, Ga. — The Archway Partnership recently named Sarah Adams as the Archway professional for Colquitt County. Adams officially began work earlier this month and is ready to dig deeper into the opportunities and challenges facing the Moultrie and Colquitt community, according to a press release from the University of Georgia. In her position, Adams will serve as a liaison between the community and UGA as she works to connect higher education resources to locally identified issues and priorities. Originally from Watkinsville, Ga., Adams earned both her bachelor’s degree in health promotion and behavior and her master’s degree in public health from UGA. Prior to joining the Archway Partnership, Adams served as a health coach for the UGA College of Public Health on a workplace health group grant that fostered weight loss in the workplace. After three years, Adams was transferred to Moultrie and went on to serve as the community outreach director for the Moultrie YMCA, where she continues to coordinate a chronic disease self-management program.

Intruders use gallon buckets to commit break-in

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — An intruder or intruders recently stacked a pair of 5-gallon buckets on top of one another to help them break into a house on Colony Farm Road in Baldwin County.

They later made off with clothing, shoes, caps, money and a BB gun, according to local authorities. As of Monday morning, no one had been arrested in connection with the residential break-in. The crime was reported to authorities Feb. 23. When a Baldwin County deputy arrived, he talked with a man who said someone had broken into his sister-in-law’s residence. The woman later corroborated what her brother-in-law had earlier told authorities. The break-in happened sometime between 9 p.m. Feb. 22 and 10:15 a.m. Feb. 23, according to the incident report filed by the deputy. The man showed Blackwell where the intruder or intruders pushed in a window air condition unit to a rear bedroom and then stacked two buckets on top of each other to gain entry into the house. Specifically stolen were two Chicago Bulls caps, $120 worth of clothing, $10 in cash, multiple pairs of Jordan shoes and a BB gun. The person or persons responsible for the crime also moved two large television sets from different areas of the residence to the bedroom, “as if they were going to come back and steal them,” the deputy said. A latex glove was discovered in the hallway of the residence near the bedroom where the burglary happened, the deputy said in his report. The glove was collected as evidence in the case, Blackwell said. Several glass jars stolen from the residence were later found in a nearby wooded area, he added in his report.
