Early voting under way for county commission seat

MOULTRIE, Ga. — Candidates for a special election for Colquitt County Commission District 1 introduced themselves to voters during a Thursday evening meet and greet at Colquitt County Arts Center.
Five of the seven candidates — from left, James Weeks, Susie Magwood Thomas, David Pittman Jr., Darius Dawson and Jeron Bridges — were on hand to interact with potential voters in the March 20 election to fill the unexpired term of Commissioner Luke Strong Jr., who died in September. The other two candidates are Barbara Lewis Jelks and Stacey Williams.
Early voting started Monday at the Registrar’s Office, Room 133 in the Colquitt County Courthouse Annex. It is being held 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. every weekday through March 16.
On the first day of voting on Monday, 11 ballots were cast in the contest, and through 12:30 p.m. Tuesday there had been seven voters, Colquitt County Voter Registrar Paula McCullough said.
In order to participate, voters must be registered to vote in the county and live in Commission District 1. Voters also must bring an accepted voter photo identification. State-issued identification cards are available at McCullough’s office.
