Report: High-speed chase ends in a shoulder block takedown

DALTON, Ga. — A Dalton man led a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office deputy on a chase that exceeded 90 miles an hour after going to a local business and trying to see a woman in violation of a court protective order, according to an incident report. According to the report, Lt. Angie Lowery used a shoulder block to push 40-year-old Jesus Sanchez-Rico into a fence and the ground when he tried to flee on foot after several failed PIT (pursuit intervention technique) attempts during a chase in the southeast part of the county. A PIT is when a law enforcement vehicle taps a car in the back wheels area to try and cause the driver to lose control and stop the car. Once Lowery had Sanchez-Rico on the ground, she said he had his left hand under his stomach after being told to show his hands, and Lowery had been told that the man at the business “possibly had a firearm.” She “gave several closed-fist strikes to the side of the male to gain compliance.” Sanchez-Rico was charged Wednesday with multiple charges, including DUI, endangering a child while DUI, aggravated stalking and terroristic threats and acts.

Collectors’ tour returns to antiques show

THOMASVILLE — The 29th Annual Thomasville Antiques Show’s Cocktails and Collections event promises something for long-time antiques collectors and newcomers. The event is to be held Saturday, Feb. 24, according to organizers. Event co-chairs are Callie Sewell and Erin Smith. The antiques show’s sole mission is to raise money for children’s charities. This year, the group will visit the homes of Mary Grace and Rick Murphy, Alicia and Craig Yokley, and Kelly and Mike Grimsley — all longtime antiques collectors, according to organizers.  Representatives from Thomasville Landmarks, Thomas County’s historic preservation organization, will be guide attendees on their tours and discuss the collections housed in each residence. A wine and cheese pairing will be provided at each home. When the tours are finished, participants can walk to the Garden Center to participate in a party sponsored by Farmers & Merchants Bank. Dinner will be catered by Kickstand. People who stay to dance to the DJ’s tunes will also receive a late-night snack. As in years past, a raffle will be held at the party for a gift certificate for a piece from the Donnie Grissom jewelry collection. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the show and at the event; they will not be available online. Attendees should wear casual Saturday-night attire. People going on the tour should pack comfortable walking shoes, organizers said. Combination tickets for the tour and the party are $125 each; tickets also are available for the people who prefer to attend the party after the tour for $75 each. Both options will include admission to the antiques show all weekend. Tickets are available online at www.Thomasvilleantiquesshow.com.
