Woman charged with drugs after anonymous tip
MOULTRIE, Ga. — A woman was charged with drug offenses after a search of a Moultrie residence Feb. 9. Courtney Carter, 29, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug-related objects and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. The incident report gave Carter’s address as Brandi Drive, but the booking report at the Colquitt County Jail lists it as 1406 Third Ave. S.E., the house where the arrest took place. Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office investigators responded to an anonymous complaint of drug and prostitution offenses taking place at the house. Carter and three other people on scene gave consent for the officers to search the residence. Investigators found methamphetamine, marijuana and drug-related objects in Carter’s possession, the report said. Carter had one of her children in the home and was supervising two children belonging to someone else at the time, the sheriff’s office report said. Those children were turned over to the Department of Family and Children Services. The other three people on scene were not charged, the report said.
South Georgia: Warm and warmer
VALDOSTA — South Georgia’s warm and staying warm for a while, according to forecasters. High temperatures across the region this week will be in the low to mid-80s due to a high-pressure ridge off the Florida coast which is pushing most cold fronts to the north, said Kelley Godsey, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Tallahassee, Fla., office. “The ridge will keep it warm and humid for a while,” he sad. The normal high for Valdosta for this time of year is 68, said Frank Strait, senior meteorologist for the private forecasting firm AccuWeather. The jet stream is moving north, allowing more warm tropical air to head north into Florida and Georgia, he said. Lows, normally in the low 40s, will instead be in the low to mid-60s, Strait said. Rain chances during the week will be “very low to non-existant,” Godsey said. “It’s going to be potentially totally dry for the next few days,” Strait said. Both meteorologists said the current high-and-dry weather could hold on for the rest of the month. Strait and Godsey also ruled out much of a chance of severe weather this week.
Local businesses raise awareness for foster children in TV PSA
DALTON, Ga. — Beginning this week, local business owners and community leaders will be featured on a 60-second television public safety announcement, raising their voices together to speak up for local foster children. The PSA will air on several major networks over the next two months, and participants will speak on the need for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) volunteers to support and advocate for Whitfield and Murray county children in foster care. Murray/Whitfield CASA, a program of Family Support Council Inc., trains volunteers from the community to serve in the local Juvenile Court as Court Appointed Special Advocates, who mentor local foster children, investigate their cases and advocate for their best interests during court proceedings.
