- LaRue Norris, Beth Paul and Joyce Smith were recognized at the recent Keenagers meeting for having birthdays in January.
MOULTRIE, Ga. — John Griffin entertained the Keenagers recently with his amazing voice. He sang several hymns and gave his personal testimony. Some of the hymns were “Because He Lives” and “How Great Thou Art.”
He shared the history of the hymn, “How Great Thou Art.” Carl Gustaf Boberg (1859-1940) was a Swedish pastor, editor and member of the Swedish Parliament. He was enjoying a nice walk when a thunderstorm suddenly appeared out of nowhere with moments of flashing violence. After the storm was over, there was a calmness followed by a brilliant sun. Soon afterward he heard the calm, sweet songs of the birds in nearby trees. This experience prompted him to fall to his knees in humble adoration of his mighty God., Boberg looked out over the clear bay and he heard a church bell in the distance and the words to “How Great Thou Art” began to form. This was published in 1891and later translated in German. He published the first three verses in English and Russian in 1949, and later translated in German. The fourth verse as a triumphant message of the eternal. The audience was so blessed to listen to John and his amazing talent.
David Adams opened the meeting with a warm welcome to the Keenagers. Charles Stines said the blessing for the soup and sandwich meal.
