Municipal, county elections on tap this year for Hamilton County

JASPER, Fla. — Hamilton County voters will have several decisions for elections this year.

White Springs holds an election every year and this year’s election day is April 24 with three seats open. Those positions are currently held by Walter McKenzie, Spencer Lofton and Willie Jefferson. Qualifying to run starts Tuesday and runs until March 20.

Jennings’ election day comes in even years and will be held June 5 with the council seats, currently held by Billy Snipes and Carmen Jones, open for election.

The Hamilton County Board of County Commissioners also has two seats up for election: District 2 and 4, which are currently held by Josh Smith and Randy Ogburn. For the school board, District 1, 4 and 5 seats are up for election. They are currently held by Cheryl McCall, Johnny Bullard and Suezette Wiggins.

Hamilton Soil and Water Conservation District has Group 1, 3 and 5 up for election held by Jon Deas, Jerry Bullard and Harlan Lambert.

The County Judge seat, currently held by Sonny Scaff, is also up for election.

The City of Jasper is not holding an election this year, like usual in even years. With only incumbents LaBarfield Bryant and Stewart Mitchell running for their open seats, no election is needed.

State positions up for election are governor and lieutenant governor, chief financial officer, attorney general, commissioner of agriculture, Florida Supreme Court justices, District Court of

Appeal Judges, state senator and state representative.

For Federal elections there is U.S. Senator and representative in Congress.

Candidates qualifying by petition for county positions must submit petitions to the Supervisor of Elections office before noon on May 21.

Candidates qualifying by fee must complete the qualifying process during the week of June 18-22. County commissioner candidates must pay a fee of 6 percent of the annual salary and school board candidates must pay a fee of 4 percent of the annual salary.
