MOULTRIE, Ga. — Moultrie police recently responded to three incidents of automobiles being broken into, one of which was discovered by a police officer on patrol, and the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Department investigated one more.

Officer Adam Cope was patrolling the area of the BP gas station, 102 S. Veterans Parkway, about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday when he saw a Chevrolet Trailblazer parked behind the store that appeared to have a broken window. He investigated and found a bunch of papers and things thrown around, and the glove box and center console were open.

Cope said he knew the SUV had been at the station since Jan. 30 because he’d responded to a medical call related to the driver that day. The driver had been taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center, Cope said, and had indicated a family member would come to get the Trailblazer.

Although Cope knew the name of the driver from his earlier encounter, he was not able to make contact with him, so he was not able to determine if anything was stolen from the vehicle.

A Colquitt County sheriff’s deputy responded about 7:25 a.m. to the 100 block of LB Nevels Road, where Larry Bryan Byrd said someone had stolen his .45-caliber handgun, valued at $600, from his 2017 Ram 1500. Byrd said his mother-in-law’s Ford Explorer was also entered, but he couldn’t identify anything missing from it.

Moultrie police responded at 9:11 a.m. Tuesday to Hospital Park, where Giselle Ivette Pineiro of Moultrie reported someone had broken into her 2015 Dodge Dart over the previous night. Items valued at $3 were taken.

Police responded to a similar report at 10:25 a.m. in the 2600 block of Seventh Street Southeast, where Marcus David Ferrell of Moultrie reported his medication was taken from his friend’s 2017 Honda Civic.
